Bad day? Watch this

Trawling through the internet as you do, I came across this headline and in turn discovered this great little video. It’s very much in the style of Mickey Smith’s Dark Side of the Lens surf video which is both inspirational and enlightening and the guy who made the film clearly has more than just a tinge of surf and skate stoke seeping through his veins.

But who did the video? The guy is known as Paper Fortress and has other cool videos posted on Vimeo, including a nice one featuring himself riding his BMX in the snow – it’s well worth checking out!

Enjoy your day…

Will you still be riding when it’s no longer cool?

I recently came across this cool advert by Burton. The message – written in classic and outdated nineties style – is clear: “Will you still be riding when it’s no longer cool”? The answer is clear, even if you can only make the text out with the help of a magnifying glass: “We will”. Perhaps in the nineties it may have seemed like it was possible that snowboarding would fall out of fashion, but the popularity (like surfing) just seems to continually grow. Some would argue – likely to be those jaded Solomons out there* – that surfing is already out of fashion – but either way, wouldn’t it be great if surfing and snowboarding did fall out of fashion?

Empty, endless, beautiful waves.

Do Trust in the Things You Love

Mickey Smith is known as the man behind epic movies such as Powers of Three and Lives of the Artists. However, if you want to get to know the celtic surf photographer extraordinaire a bit better, then I’d highly recommend watching his inspiring talk at the ‘Do Lecture’ series, with his talk being centred on ‘Do Trust In the Things You Love‘ (which you can find here).

Good advice. If your Mickey Smith fix can’t wait that long, or you want to see some his work, then why not check out his equally cool short movie ‘Darkside of the Lens’?

There are also a variety of worthwhile lectures available to watch at the ‘Do Lecture‘ series which fall under the heading: Ideas + Energy = Change
